My good friends,
It has truly been too long. I assume you're all keeping well and making the most of this year that has been given to us. Today is the day to begin sharing my newest work with you. This is the first single off of my upcoming album. I feel sometimes that people don't have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn't consistent with actual events. My family and my second family (consisting of the best friends anybody could ever have) all struggled and worked extremely hard to make all this happen. I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I'm excited for this song to find a place in your life as well. I didn't feel I needed any interviews or radio or press to launch this song. It felt right to come back to the site that I started on and release it to the people that started here with me. Judging by this post, the tour that we've been planning, the conversations about new songs and album artwork...I think it's safe to say we're back together again. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 311 of 311Folks give Drake a break. He's an artist and you have to try new stuff. Can't always stay the same. No, it isn't what we are used to. The song has a old hip hop feel to it, and I feel it. Don't know about anyone else, but I fully and totally support him and all that he does.
Love Ya Drake
This is really bad... get back to your old stuff! Stop trying to be who you aren't

Ah .-. That very impressed. I like the flow but drizzy is really changing the game of his music now. I miss the old drake that made take care, so far gone etc.
Drake,
Thanks for posting the song here and proving you're still the same genuine soul we loved in the beginning. Thank you for the song. I wish you nothing but continued health, happiness and success in 2013!

Drake you got mad skills bro. You need to stop tryna be hard and tryna prove shit to people and just enjoy yourself and make good music. Quit tryna be a gangsta and quit putting out mediocre shit. Do NOT settle for it. You can do way better than this shit. You need to drop this from your album dawg, real talk. You better than this. This shit suck.
Drake,
I've been sitting reading comments for the past 3 hours and there's one thing that I don't understand. Why have I been reading what other people think? But the truth is we all want to hear criticism, we just choose when we want to hear it. A lot of people are confused about that song being your first single, but I question them, not you. It's been since October 24th that we've heard any of your new work, not features. It feels like each year it gets longer and longer.. But does that make more and more people anxious to hear what you've been using all that time for. It was 1 year and 4 months that it took you to drop Take Care after Thank Me Later.. It's been 1 year and 3 months since Take Care. What am I trying to prove here. Aubrey, you have come up with a system that works. You can successfully design an album with up to 17 songs or 19 adding bonus tracks and those 19 songs would of been your main focus for that year and 4 months or so.. When Drake as an artist can have the patience to do that, than that is why you see an entire fan base of loving fans that learn to be as patient as he is. All I keep reading is "Starting From The Bottom" grew on people once they kept playing it. I myself have played it over 40 times as of now. Has it grown on me? NO! Because I myself as a fan like to feel where Drake is at his life and what he's trying to tell us.. He has nothing to prove, he's done that. But everyone has a bottom, but now were here patiently waiting for this genius to do what he does best. And that's to paint a perfect picture..
I can't wait for this journey, it's been mad long man.
Love hearing more of your story Aubrey. The story that is unfolding more and more every day.
You fake as fuck just cause he isn't doing the style you're use too? This has the "new shit" vibe, the lines are tight as hell and I can relate to this, I like it ! -RJa-Cee
This is what i like about your music style drizzy, original, an artist that is constantly evolving constantly changing and guess what, you always succeed on your new approaches.P.S. Im bookmarking your blog so any new releases including your upcoming album should be posted here. OVO

DEAR DRAKE,
I've been searching for the name of a thriller/horror movie I saw a couple of years ago but forgot the name of and can't seem to find anywhere.
I need your help.
It's about a group of people(researchers, experts, etc) who venture out into the forest of some remote village to investigate a myth about an area where if you listen to the wind it sounds like classical music. It's suppose to be an actual natural phenomenon that happens because of electromagnetism and radioactivity and other scientific shit (kind of like the northern lights).
The group is led by this one researcher who is kind of a shady character. After getting the rest of the team lost, he finally tells them the "truth" to why he wanted to research the sound of the wind myth. He tells them about a legend about what happened years ago to the villagers who used to live in the area. Apparently, for no reason whatsoever, they all went up into the same forest leaving everything they had behind. A few days later tourist came and found the village deserted but found mutilated for miles up one of the trails. The tourist weren't suspects since there was no way two people could make an entire village hike into a forest while mutilating them for miles then come back without any evidence of fowl play. The massacre is still an unsolved mystery.
The group then gets restless from hearing the truth to why there were brought to the forest and decide to split up to find a way out. Just then, they experience the classical music of the wind. And shit gets really spooky and everything just goes downhill from there.
So yeah. If you or your OVO guys could use your hookups from the media, I'm sure someone who's into cinema knows this movie and could just give me the name. Thanks a bunch.
Cheers.
As a proud Torontonian, born and raised, I enjoy drakes music and love the excitement and attention he has brought to my city. This song in particular is sonically pleasing and i enjoy listening to it with a "blind ear" so to speak. That being said, this nigga dont know what the fuckin bottom looks like... when i hear these sentiments in his music i get offended; its one thing to give a voice to the unheard in your city, but to insinuate that you lived a life that many youth in my city struggle through, when you know damn well you had it nice, is borderline mockery. Aubrey is from Forest-Hill, one of the wealthiest and most prestigious neighborhoods in Toronto. He lived with his mom in a huge house and lived the privileged life that many youth in my city would KILL to live. This is not to say that he didnt struggle, because everyone struggles regardless of their upbringing, but the struggle he is implying on this track and many others (i.e. "Enough Said", "Headlines", "Stay Scheming") is not his. Even the subject matter he talks about in this track is mocking Toronto youth. Instead of worrying about bringing an uncles car back in time and arguing with your mother, youth in my neighborhood worry about filling the fridge and helping mom pay rent on the one bedroom that houses a whole family. Forest-Hill living, fancy houses, disposable income, financial stability, pool's in ones backyard is not the bottom... at least not for my city. Toronto, I love you. Forever and always.
that's so dope drizzy can't wait for the album <3 <3 shout out OVO

@drakkardnoir don't be mad at us, just let us get use to this new style. Damn you came out of nowhere with it so what do you expect, we're still here and we still listen to the song, so like we said It's OVO till it's over. We always here.

Crack record, but fuck toronto!
expected more but you still the best
expected more drizzy but you still the best
This song is dope. Simple and to the point.
I agree with the previous comment. He takes risks and it works for him and everyone else because we get a variety of styles and not forced to listen to the same monotonous bs that we use to hear on the radio before he came along and others that are out now. Thank God for that.
I can't wait to hear this album, been waiting for you to put out new music. A true inspiration to my future in music, but you've said it in a song before.. When you make it big your idols become your rivals.
Can't wait for the album to drop! Dope song!
About time damn !!!!!!
Nice work Drizzy. Idk if this would work or if you read the comments but it would mean the world if you can peep a listen to my youtube. As a huge fan that would be one of the best things someone like you can do. Thanks and keep coming with more: https://www.youtube.com/user/musicxmusic25?feature=mhee

It's drake season nigga.
$$$
Here's the deal...
Flow wise this that Comeback Season Drake.
Lyric wise... this is just straight garbage. Drake doesn't go into depth at all about how he "started from the bottom." Arguing with your mom and your Uncle being concerned about were you at because you passed your curfew is something that EVERYONE goes through. So you haven't convinced any of the skeptic that you truly indeed "started from the bottom"
All in all flow is on point like always, but lyrics are lacking yet again.
Can honestly say this music has become apart of my life in various ways. Thanks for doing it.
good for knowing a little of your story.
recognition of Brazil bro!
Great song Drake! Check out my remix in reggaedubstep! Hope you like it! https://soundcloud.com/carlitotheking/drake-started-from-the-bottom

ok i c u.. reminds me of some slum village x ready to die x 40 production...smoothies
Slum village? No it does not. Maybe a touch of raise it up but its Drizzy. He sounded a lil like SV flow with his mixtapes but I think he is finding his sound now.
I DONT COMMENT ON THESE THINGS WHEN IT COMES TO ARTISTS USUALLY BUT WHEN I HEAR THAT PASSION IN YOUR VOICE, WHEN YOU LET YOUR STRUGGLES ROLL LIKE A WATERFALL POURING OVER, RELEASEING IT ALL, EXPRESSIVE TO THE HIGHEST SKY, I AM INSPIRED BY THAT IMMENSELY.IN MY NEXT POST I WILL STATE PERSONALLY WHY I AM INSPIRED BY YOU SO MUCH AND WHY, WHEN IM LISTENING TO SONGS LIKE "STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM," "FEAR," "THE RESISTANCE," "THE CALM," I GET CHILLS. I FEEL REJOICED AND AT EASE BECAUSE SOMEONE CAN RELATE TO THE PAIN I WENT THROUGH AND I CAN RELATE TO YOURS. I HEAR YOU (DIFFERENTLY THAN MOST) DRAKE AND FOR EXPRESSING YOUR RAW EMOTIONS (AS US LIBRAS DO), I COULD NEVER THANK YOU ENOUGH IN WORDS.
IN YOUR VOICE, I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
MY LIFE TOO HAS BEEN INSANE.
OUR LIVES AREN'T EVEN A SPRAIN.
OUR STRENGTH IS A TESTATMENT TO WHAT WE OVERCAME.
I FEEL YOUR STRUGGLE, THAT TUGGLE WITH LIFE'S HORRORS.
WILL I SEE A BRIGHTER TOMORROW?
BUT SEE, OUR HOPE NEVER CULMINATES.
THE WAY WE EXPRESS IS OUR GIVE AND TAKE TO THE WORLD.
WE LAY OUR EMOTIONS NAKED FOR THE WORLD TO VIEW.
WITH MY LIFE, STATISTICALLY I SHOULD'VE DROWNED THROUGH.
BUT VOICES LIKE YOURS MAKE ME RISE.
WHEN I TELL PEOPLE, YOU'RE ONE OF MY BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS THEY'RE SURPRISED.
HOLD ONTO YOUR MOM TIGHTER THAN EVER.
I FEEL LIKE MINE HAS BEEN GONE FOREVER.
13 YEARS MARCH IS FOREVER.
EVERY LEVER WHICH SPILLED I TILLED UNTIL I MADE IT RIGHT.
WITHIN US, THERE IS THAT MUHAMMED ALI FIGHT TENET.
BEING RAPED, I COULDN'T FORGET IT.
BEING PLAGUED WITH A VIRUS SINCE BIRTH, I CAN"T EVEN EXPRESS THE HURT WHICH IS MORE THAN A CARGO SHIP.
THE SIPS OF LIQUOR DON'T BURY THE AGONY.
BUT KNOWING THAT YOU'RE WITH ME, THAT YOU CAME UP FROM THE BOTTOM GIVES HOPE TO ME TO TRIUMPH OVER EVERY PROBLEM THE ODDS GAVE.
REMEMBER THAT CLICHE SAYING, WELL LIFE GAVE ME ROTTEN FRUIT, BUT I MADE LEMONADE.
I CANT SEE THAT GRAVE DRAGGING ME SIX FEET UNDER.
AND EVERY BLUNDER LIKE YOUR MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT IM WOMAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT.
WIT, PASSION, AND FIRE INFLAMED IN OUR LYRICAL CONTENT.
WE'RE LEGENDARY IN OUR PROMISE TO NEVER BE ANYTHING BUT INDIVIDUALS.
WE MAINTAIN THE VISUAL, FOCUS, AND THEN THE SPIRITUAL FIRE ARISES.
UNITED WITH THE ONES WE LOVE, THAT IS WHAT GUIDES US ALONG WITH PERSERVERANCE.
PATIENCE, RELEASE, NOTHING SEEPS AND REMAINS.
AND NO, TELL THE HATERS, WE DON'T CHANGE.
AS WE EVOLVE, WE TURN ANOTHER PAGE.
BUT OUR OVO SPIRIT IS NEVER DELAYED.

Interesting first single, just have to wonder if we are moving away from that so far gone sound which take care was able to bring us back to. Only time will tell
this is another excellent body of work and to everyone thats been sleepin on this genius i suggest you wake the f up cause Mr. OVO is not going to stop.
EVERYONE hates when an artist develops their skillset.
Why though?
I don't want to hear the same old song from Drake album after album. No. Fuck that. I rather see him grow as an artist, branch out, and experiment sonically.
Jay-Z went through the same backlash from his fans as he moved on from Volumes I to III. In response he had this to say, "Niggas want my old shit, buy my old album. Niggas stuck on stupid, I gotta keep it..." He for one didn't supress his genius. And the outcome was Blueprint I to III, an album with Linkin Park, and with Kanye West.
Speaking on Kanye. He went through the same thing when he diverted from College Dropout and Late Registration and Graduation to 808's & Heartbreak. The later of which has become his most well known, best selling, influential albums to date.
Let Drake do his thing and grow. Change is a good thing. It gives way for room to improve on things that worked well for him in the past.
This Sucks And Isnt Your Type Of Music
You're such a real nigga. I'll always love you and your music. Such an inspiration, keep it up baby.

Hey Drake,
I want to start off by saying that I am a MAJOR fan of your music. Lately, though, I have been having a hard time with your lyrics, as well as the rest of the Young Money Crew's lyrics.
Is it really necessary to write as many derogatory/misogynistic lyrics as you do? I thought you were different than the rest of the rappers out there. I originally became a fan of your music because of the dope beats, the honesty in your lyrics, the witty metaphors, the self-reflection…but lately all this rapping that puts down women is really sad. Your influence reaches far in our culture. I can't help but think of my 13 year old male cousin who idolizes rappers like you, and talks about girls negatively, with disregard, in the way you guys do.
As a popular artist on a world platform, your words influence everyone, and the culture as a whole. All this negative speak about hoes, bitches…It really is the responsibility of the artist (and the record company, I guess) to realize what message they're putting out there, to own it, and think about how that's changing their fans' worldview/feelings about their own relationships and regards towards women. Just saying'…You, your words, have power. Use it in the best way you can.

Real rap - no matter what stage you in your life, you can relate!
Drake, it goes without saying that I'm a huge fan of your music. Honestly, this track isn't your best work. The hook is bland and while I know you feel emotional about this subject, I feel this songs lacks any emotional content. I can usually forgive all of that if the song is dope, but I just think the track itself is ... for lack of a better word ... boring and kinda uninspired. The emotional content is what makes you YOU, Drizzy and lately (i.e. post Take Care), it seems it has been lacking and replaced with the more typical rap lyrics about ladies, libido, libations and linguistic battles about or dissing 'da haters' (even though I can forgive all that when you just RIP IT like you did in 'Problems').
On a side note, please steer away from n*ggas and f*cks in the hook. It just seems so... weird.
I understand you need to lay this track to clear the air about your past. But why now? Why #1 on the new album? Haters gonna hate and don't care/won't care about your story. FUCK THEM! Get away from the herd and get back to being different from the crowd!
I hope "Nothing Was the Same" has more lines like in "Problems". Either way, God Bless You and Shalom in your future endeavors! I will see you at the next show in Indianapolis!
I like this song Drizzy. Your lucky to have good friends in your life that helped you get to where you are now. Im happy for you :-)

Dear Aubrey,
You may or may not recieve this but one can only dream. I have been a long time fan of yours in hopes to one day be in your presence but I must be honest my chances of that ever coming true are very slim. I am a 20 year old journalism major in NY and I have came to the realization that I am in awe of you. It is not only your music that captures me but it is your poise, your diction, the way you handle yourself during interviews the way you respond to fans in public. You are truly amazing at what you do and who you are. I appreciate the music you have written and shared with us, your fans, and I can only hope that we learn more about you and build a greater respect for you. Thank you for all the hard and long days & nights you put up with to deliver only the best. You have only made it to the beginning of your dreams becoming reality and you have so much more to fulfill as do I. One day my hardwork will payoff and I will be the journalist I dream of becoming and we might cross paths. Till then I can only wish and continue to support your movement. May God continue to bless you
